Israeli dancing on Monday, Beginner classes start up in June

Hello Gainesville Ocala Israeli and Folk Dancers,
 
There will be Israeli Dancing this Monday 5/28 and English Country Dancing as well.
 
Friday June 1 International Folk Dancing returns after about a month hiatus.
 
Sunday June 3 is the monthly afternoon Contra Dance at the Boltin Center.
 
Sunday June 3 Sacred Groove returns for a meaning evening.
 
Next month, we have four classes for beginners starting at 308 West. This is a great time for anyone you know to get started with other beginners. These classes are offered through Santa Fe College Community Education. If you just show up, classes are $10 each, otherwise you can sign up at SFC here

- Argentine Tango 101 : Tuesdays 6 to 7 starting June 12
- Contra Dancing 110 : Sundays 5 to 6 starting June 10
- Super Simple Swing Dancing 101 (including West Coast Beginners) : Sundays 6 to 7 starting June 10
- Israeli Folk Dancing 101 : Mondays 7 to 8 starting June 9
 
The Jewish holiday of Shavuot, the beginning of summer harvest festival, starts Saturday night. Shavuot is Hebrew for "weeks". Shavuot takes place 7 weeks after Passover, on the fiftieth day, which corresponds to Pentecost. Shavuot celebrates the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai. These are some dances that we do that have a connection to Shavuot:
- Al Sadeinu : On Our Fields
- Ashrei Haish : The Happy Man (Moses and the Burning Bush)
- Yedid Nefesh : Soul Mate, referring to the Torah or Shabbat and the Jewish people

Ballroom, Tango, Swing, New Beginning Classes, New Schedule for Swing Next Month

Hello Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,
 
You can dance every night.
 
Friday night Kay teaches Rumba at 308 West. Afterwards stay for UF Tango Club or head over to the Boltin Center for Swing and Sway.
 
Saturday night join Tango Pavadita at 308 West or go to a Ballroom Dance Party at By Ear Musician.
 
Sunday come out for a fun time at 308 West with Beginning West Coast Swing from 6 to 7 pm, more experienced Swing from 7 to about 8:15 and then Hustle! from about 8:15 to about 9:30.
 
Monday there is English Country Dancing and Israeli Dancing at 308 West.
 
Tuesday Argentine Tango with Nick and Elke for all levels from 6 to 7:30 at 308 West. After Tango, Ray and Eileen have a Ballroom Dance lesson and a social.
 
Tuesday Richard is teaching Waltz and Foxtrot at the Boltin Center.
 
Wednesday night is open West Coast Swing dancing or practice, whatever you like, from 8 to 10, no lesson at 308 West. $6, $4 students.
 
Thursday Judi teaches West Coast Swing at 308 West.
 
Thursday Ray and Eileen teach Ballroom Dance at By Ear Musician.

Next month we have a new schedule for Swing dancing at 308 West. Judi's West Coast Swing class will move to Wednesday nights with doors opening at 7 to 10 pm. Thursday nights will be open, primarily West Coast Swing dancing from 8 to 10 pm. Sundays from 6 to 7 will be beginning Swing. 7 to 8:30 experienced Swing. 8:30 to 9:30 Hustle! Individual classes for Thusday and Sunday will be $10 general, $7 if you paid for any other dance sessions during the prior week, $5 students. Or $35 for the month which includes both Thursday and Sunday (and Israeli on Monday), only $25 if you pay for any other monthly dance sessions, $20 students.

Special Tango, Salsa Social, Contra Dance, Waltz Brunch, Beginner West Coast Swing

Hello Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,
 
You have a great weekend of dancing coming up.
 
Friday night starts with Kay Picart teaching American Ballroom Show Tango from 6 to 7 pm at 308 West.
 
Right after Kay's class world class professional Argentine Tango dancers John Erban and Clarissa Sanchez are giving two workshops at 308 West followed by Argentine Tango dancing. They surely will give a demonstration. Worth attending whether you dance tango or not.
 
This weekend is the third Saturday night Contra Dance at the Boltin Center from 8 to 11.
 
At 308 West, come out for a Salsa and Latin Dance Social from 10 pm to 2 am.
 
Sunday morning is the monthly Vintage Waltz Brunch from 10:30 to 1:30. Don could use some help so get there early or stay late to give him a hand. Bring a dish to share.
 
Sunday evening from 6 to 7 is Beginning West Coast Swing, followed by more Swing and Hustle!
 
Monday English Country Dancing.
 
There will be no Israeli dancing this Monday. We will resume 5/28.
 
Tuesday is a cozy Argentine Tango class suitable for beginners with Nick and Elke from 6 to 7:30.
 
Richard is teaching Waltz and Foxtrot at the Boltin Center this month on Tuesdays from 7 to 9.
 
At 308 West on Tuesday join Ray, Eileen and Gail for a Ballroom Dance lesson and social, doors open at 7. Dancing until 10.
 
Wednesday night we will continue Essie's West Coast Swing time with open dancing from 8 to 10, no lesson. $6, $4 students.
 
Thursday Judi teaches West Coast Swing at 308 West.

Swing Dance Party Sunday, Saturday Dances, Batizado

Hello Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,
 
Spend Sunday with mom or the kids and come out Sunday night for our Swing 101 Graduation Dance Party and welcome our new dancers to Gainesville's dance community. Mostly slower music suitable for all types of swing. At 308 West. Beginning West Coast Swing lesson from 6 to 7. Dancing from 7 to 9:30. $10, $5 students. The more you dance, the more you save, only $7 if you paid for organized dancing somewhere else during the prior week.
 
UF Swing and Tango clubs are on break Friday night.
 
Saturday morning head out to the Boltin Center to watch the annual, spectacular Brazilian Batizado dance festival from 10:30 to 1:30. Fantastic, visiting guest artists.
 
Saturday night Argentine Tango milonga with guest DJ Gordon from Tallahassee at 308 West.
 
Saturday night Ballroom Dance with Ray and Eileen at By Ear Musician.
 
Monday at 7 at 308 West both English and Israeli dancing.
 
Tuesday at 308 West, Argentine Tango 6 to 7:30 with Nick and Elke, beginners encouraged. Ballroom Dancing 7:45 to 10, doors open at 7:30, with Ray and Eileen.
 
Tuesday at the Boltin Center, Richard teaches Foxtrot from 7 to 9.
 
Wednesday come out for Josh's West Coast Swing Mother's Day Dance Party, 7 to 9 at 308 West.
 
Thursday West Coast Swing lesson with Judi from 8 to 9:30 at 308 West.
 
Next Friday May 18 Kay teaches American Show Tango. Immediately after Kay's class, special guests, professional dancers John Erban and Clarissa Sanchez host two Argentine Tango workshops.
 
We are adding classes to the More You Dance the More You Save Program.

Article: There Usually Is Something Correct In A Newspaper Article
 
Years back, there was a fire at a house on my sister's street.
 
My mother was watching my nephew and they reported the fire to the fire department.
 
A reporter came and wrote a story.
 
I like to joke about newspaper stories that there usually is something correct in the story.
 
The story was wrong about which house the fire was in and about who reported the fire, but there was a fire and it was on that street.
 
Last week, Josh and Nick sent me corrections to my newsletter. I would like to go on record for this and all future newsletters that there is dancing and it is somewhere in Gainesville, but as to exactly where, when and other details, we all will have to take our chances.

Bahama's Cruise, Israeli, Batizado, Dance Party

Hello Gainesville Ocala Israeli and Folk Dancers,
 
Israeli and English tonight at 7 pm at 308 West, small room and big room.
 
The Capoiera Batizado yearly Brazilian festival is this Saturday May 12 at the Thelma Boltin Center, from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm, wiht visiting guest artists and fantastic performances you can watch.
 
Sunday May 13 come out for our Swing Dance Party and welcome the Swing 101 dancers to Gainesville's dance community. There will be a beginning West Coast Swing class from 6 to 7 and Swing dancing from 7 to 9:30. There will be a mix of music for all types of Swing.

May is a Mess, 5 Rhythms, Ballroom Tango, Swing, Argentine Tango, Contra

Hello Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,
 
May is a mess, in a good way. Lots of great dancing opportunities, but the schedule is all over the place.

UF Swing is on break for the summer. They will be meeting after break at the Reitz Union. UF students are invited to come over to join Gainesville's swing dance community for fun dancing.
 
Friday, tonight are two excellent programs back to back at 308 West. First Kay teaches American Show Tango from 7 to 8 pm, $15. Doors open at 8 pm with Dubravko hosting an Argentine Tango lesson suitable for beginners and people with experience, followed by casual dancing and practice. $10, only $7 if you paid for organized dancing elsewhere during the prior week, $5 students.
 
Saturday night is Josh's monthly West Coast Swing Mother's Day Dance Party at 308 West, 7:30 to midnight.
 
Sunday Contra Dancing 101 meets at the Contra Dance at the Boltin Center for the lesson at 3:30.
 
If you have wanted to learn West Coast Swing and have been waiting for a beginners class, Sunday evenings in May from 6 to 7 pm is your chance. Join Swing 101 and learn the basics of West Coast Swing for the four Sundays in May. Suitable for East Coast and Lindy dancers who want to convert what they know into West Coast. $10, only $7 if you paid for organized dancing elsewhere during the prior week, $5 students.
 
Sunday doors open at 7 pm for 5 Rhythms guided meditative dance with visiting guest instructor Amber Ryan. Amber only comes her a couple of times a year so catch her while you can.
 
Monday is English County and Israeli dancing both at 7 pm at 308 West.
 
Tuesday join Nick and Elke for a semi-private Argentine Tango lesson, great for beginners and experienced dancers, from 6 to 7:30 for only $5.
 
After Tango doors open at 7:30, for Ray's Ballroom class that starts at 7:45 pm, followed by Ballroom dancing until 10 pm.
 
On Tuesday Richard teaches Waltz and Foxtrot at the Boltin Center from 6:45 to 9 pm.
 
Wednesday thru Saturday next week is the Batizado, the Brazilians yearly dance festival with their big event Saturday morning at the Boltin Center and open to the public with fantastic performances.
 
There probably will not be dancing Wednesday through Friday at 308 West next week, unless perhaps we may have open dancing on one of the nights starting around 9 pm. Watch next weeks' newsletter for an announcement.
