Two Dances this Weekend, West Coast Swing and Contra, American Tango, Rumba, Hustle Next Week

Hello Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,
 
Some good dance opportunities this weekend. Saturday night is Josh's monthly West Coast Swing Dance, this month with guest DJ Bruce Warren from Jacksonville at their new location The Movement on Main Street just South of 16 Avenue next to Publix.
 
Sunday is the monthly Contra Dance at the Boltin Center.
 
Monday join us for Israeli Dancing at B'nai Israel from 7 to around 9 now on the left side in the social hall.
 
Bob Rogers teaches American Tango on Tuesdays and Ballroom Rumba on Thursdays at the Boltin Center.
 
Judi starts up West Coast Swing on Wednesdays at The Movement.
 
Ray and Eileen continue their Hustle series on Thursdays.
 
UF Argentine Tango Club continues to meet on Thursdays at Corry Village.
 
Heard UF Swing Club meets every other week, so not this week, on Fridays in the Reitz Union on the third floor.

English and Israeli on Memorial Day, Line Dancing Thursdays, Contra next Sunday

Gainesville Ocala Israeli and Folk Dance Newsletter 2013-05-26
 
Hello {!Gainesville Ocala Israeli and Folk Dancers,
 
There is Israeli and English Country Dancing on Memorial Day, Monday night as usual.
 
For Israeli we are now meeting in the social hall with the wood laminate floor, which is a lot better for dancing. Dancing is from 7 to 8:30 or so at B'nai Israel. If you are interested in a beginner series let me know and we can schedule one. The cost is $8 per session (and you can bring your whole family with you) if paid by the month, $10 for drop in. If you have financial difficulty, pay what you can (say $3 to $5) or come for free.

Kol Simcha has Israeli dancing on Thursday nights for free.

Next Sunday June 2 is the monthly Contra Dance at the Boltin Center.
 
The International Folk Dancers next meet on Friday June 7.

Article: Ya Ribon Olam new circle dance by Ira Weisburd
 
Dear Friends,
 
On the eve of my 60th birthday, this "Shabbat", I am very excited to be releasing a new Israeli Circle Dance.
 
I came across this new beautiful rendition of one of the oldest Hebrew songs. It was written in the 16th century by Rabbi Israel Ben Najara, one of the greatest poets in Jewish history. He studied Torah with his father and was influenced by the spirituality of music and poetry.
 
Rabbi Najara immigrated to Israel and settled in the city of Safad where he continued to compose songs in Eretz Yisrael. Unfortunately due to a deadly plague in the Safad, Najara was forced to leave Safad where he settled in Gaza and became the Chief Rabbi of Gaza. Najara passed away in 1625 and is buried in the ancient Jewish cemetery in Gaza.
 
The song is a hymn of praise to G-d, a major theme of Shabbat liturgy. It is chanted on Friday evenings in all parts of the world. After describing the wonders of G-d's creation, the poet, Kabbalistically inspired, concludes with a prayer for the redemption of Yisrael and the restoration of Yerushalayim, "the city of beauty."
 
I want to also thank my good friend, Maurice Perez of Montreal, Canada for releasing this song to me.

English and Israeli, Line Dancing, International on Friday, Ya Ribon Olam

Hello Gainesville Ocala Israeli and Folk Dancers,
 
The city forgot to open the Boltin Center for the Contra dance on Saturday night. People went to Alex Sink's house for the after party. I brought music. Jonathan King improvised some Contra dances. Everyone had a good time.
 
Israeli and English Country Dancing tonight, as usual. Israeli is from 7 to 8:30 or so at B'nai Israel, $8 per family per session if paid by the month, $10 for drop in. If you have financial difficulty, pay what you can or come for free.
 
Kol Simcha has Israeli dancing on Wednesday nights for free.

West Coast Swing Dance Party Tonight, UF Swing and Tango Clubs in Session, Contra and Tango Saturday Night, Hustle and Waltz

Hello Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,
 
The 6-week series for Super Simple Swing 101 and Beginning West Coast ended last night. I am planning to do more of these types both beginning and the next level in the fall. At the moment, do not have anything planned for the summer, but check the newsletter for dance opportunities.
 
If you want to practice during week days, instead of working, let me know. I am offering private practice sessions for a nominal fee, not much more than the group rate.
 
If you like, come out on Mondays at 7 pm to my Israeli dance session and on Thursdays at noon to Senior Line Dancing.
 
There are a lot of good dance opportunities for you. Here are some recommendations for dancing not on the every week schedule.
 
Swing and Sway has an afternoon Dance today Friday.
 
Tonight come out to Josh's 3rd Friday of the Month West Coast Swing Dance Party. For Super Simple Swing Dancers, you can attend this event and do your super simple swinging. Lesson at 7:30 with Judi, $5. Dancing at 8:30, $10.
 
UF Swing Club meets on Fridays in the Reitz Union on the 3rd floor, with a free lesson at 8 pm, dancing at 9 pm.
 
The International Folk Dancers also meet tonight and next Friday.
 
Saturday night is the monthly Contra Dance at the Boltin Center, lesson at 7:30, dancing 8 to midnight. $8. These are a lot of fun, easy to do, no experience needed. I plan on being there.
 
Also Saturday night, David and Thuy host a Tango milonga. For details, contact david.chayes@gmail.com
 
Next Wednesday is casual Argentine Tango practice in a private home. New dancers welcome. If you have taken some classes or would like to learn, contact me for details.
 
The next two Thursdays Ray and Eileen are teaching 3-Count Hustle, Bob Rogers is teaching American Ballroom Waltz and UF Argentine Tango Club meets at Corry Village, open to the community.

Line Dancing restarts this week on Thursday May 16. To register for the next 4 weeks call or email Jennifer Mullis at 352-395-5193 or jennifer.mullis@sfcollege.edu. Cost is $34 for the 4 weeks.
 
Line Dancing is from Noon to 1:30, starting with Beginners and ending with Intermediate.
12:00 – 12:30 Beginners
12:30 – 1:00 Overlap Beginner and Intermediate
1:00 – 1:30 Intermediate

West Coast Swing Dance Party, Contra Dance Party, Tango Milonga

Hello Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,
 
This Thursday is week 6, the last week, for Super Simple Swing and Beginning West Coast Swing.

Sign Up for Line Dancing for May 16, Israeli on Thursdays too, Contra Dance in Melrose

Hello Gainesville Ocala Israeli and Folk Dancers,
 
There is no Line Dancing this week Thursday May 9 because the room is not available.
 
You can now sign up for Line Dancing at the Senior Center for 4 weeks on Thursdays from May 16 to June 6. Call or email Jennifer Mullis at 352-395-5193 or jennifer.mullis@sfcollege.edu. Cost is $34 for the 4 weeks.
 
Line Dancing is offered via Santa Fe College Community Education at the Senior Center from Noon until 1:30, with this format.
12:00 – 12:30 Beginners
12:30 – 1:00 Overlap Beginner and Intermediate
1:00 – 1:30 Intermediate

Kol Simcha is holding Israeli Dancing on Thursdays from 6:30 - 8:30 for free at 619 NE 1 Street, near downtown. Beginners at 6:30. Intermediate at 7:15. Open Dance from 8 to 8:30. Check for any last minute changes at www.kolsimcha.org. 352-485-1210
 
Israeli and English meet next Monday night as usual.
 
Let me know if you are interested in an Israeli Dancing beginner series. If there is interest we will schedule one for Mondays around 7 pm.
 
This Friday is the monthly Contra Dance in Melrose.

Private Practice, Paso Doble, West Coast Swing Dance, Swing and Sway, Contra

Gainesville Ocala Swing and Social Dance Newsletter 2013-05-01
 
Hello Gainesville Ocala Social Dancers,
 
Lots of changes for May, so read on.
 
First my programs:
 
1. Private Practice for any kind of dancing - if anyone, any couple or small groups want to have private practice or private lessons at very reasonable rates, let me know.
 
2. Sunday evening dancing - am thinking about organizing Swing and Hustle dancing on Sunday evenings. If you are interested, let me know.
 
3. Super Simple Swing 101 and Beginning West Coast Swing meet tonight for week 4 of 6. We do need extra leaders for WCS from 7 to 8:30 at Gainesville High School. See below for
 
4. Israeli Dancing is on Monday nights from 7 to 8:30 at B'nai Israel, 3830 NW 16 Blvd, $8 per family if paid by the month, $10 drop in
 
5. Line Dancing at the Senior Center with beginners at 11:30 and intermediate at 12:30. Let me know if you would like to sign up for another series of line dancing starting next week.
 
There are some new schedules for May.
 
On Thursdays Ray and Eileen are teaching Paso Doble at By Ear Musician. Bob Rogers is teaching East Coast Swing at the Boltin Center.
 
On Tuesdays Bob Rogers is teaching Hustle at the Boltin Center.
 
UF Swing and UF Tango Club, I think, are on break.
 
There will not be West Coast Swing on Wednesdays. Josh has added a third Friday West Coast Swing dance to go with his first Saturday dance. Both these dances are now held at By Ear Musician.

Saturday night West Coast Swing Dance Party with Josh Angel at By Ear Musician.
 
Sunday Swing and Sway Tea Dance from 2:30 to 5 with a live band at the Senior Center.
 
Sunday Contra Dance from 4 to 7 at the Boltin Center.

Video 4: Closed position, we started to do this
Video 5: Closed position basic, moving around, quarter turns
Video 6: Send out from Closed to Open, we are doing this
Video 7: Pull Back from Open to Closed, we are doing this
Video 8: Tuck Turn Send Out, we may get to this
Video 9: Pass or Change Places, we are doing this
Video 10-14: 8-Count moves, we will not do this in Super Simple Swing, but we are doing a version of this in WCS
Video 15: 6-Count routine, we started to do this
