Gainesville Area WCS - Sabrina Pax in Jax, Danielle in WW, FREE Holidaze Blues Dance

Wow! The "A (Stephen) White Christmas" Workshop and Dance went over very well indeed! We had a big crowd of people that seemed to be having a really good time - my thanks to everyone that came and had fun with us! Whats New??
 
This Weekend: We have two great choices for WCS this weekend: the Sabrina Paxmann Workshops at Brooklyn Royal hosted/DJ'ed by Bruce Warren in Jax, or the Danielle Blouin Workshops at Allure Studios (formerly Dance Dance Dance) in Wildwood!  Cyndi and I are headed to Jax, but if you are thinking of going to the Danielle Blouin workshops in Wildwood, they will bump the price down to $20 if you are coming from Gville (down from $30) for the entire event. Pretty sweet deal! Either one of these events will be great though, so be sure to go to one of 'em!
 New info below: Also, see the bottom of the email - I have updated a lot of the info and included a new section "Monthly Schedule of Dancing opportunities in the Gville Area." This is kind of a dummies guide of all the WCS dances/classes in the area. Do you know of any I missed? Please let me know if so! Remember: this is a strictly West Coast Swing newsletter for the Gville area (Gainesville, Jacksonville, Ocala, Wildwood) and unless it has a primarily WCS focus or WCS class, I don't list it here.  Dance & Dreams Benefit in Ocala: I hate to harp, but as I said last month, everyone should plan on attending the fundraiser in Ocala on January 21st. It's close-by, it will be a great time for a great cause, and will have nearly all the Pro's in the state attending. There will be lot's of Workshops too. The amazing Rob Royston will be flying in with his wife Nicola too! Rob is a legendary Swing dancer, is one of the very tip-top Pro's in WCS, and is a hilarious host. Also, Victor Loveira will be DJ'ing, one of the top Swing DJ's in the world.
 
And here is a new bit of news: there will be a "Pre-Party" the night before at Allure Dance in Wildwood, and I'll be the DJ! More info on that soon. Don't miss it!

We are having a very special "1st Saturday of the Month" in January: World Champion Dancer Sabrina Paxmann will be donating her time to raise funds to aid Gary Gammage & Judi Markell with Medical Bills and other expenses associated with Gary's tragic accident. Please join us for ...a day of ChaCha & West Coast Swing Workshops, a Mini Lesson where YOU decide what Sabrina teaches, AND a dance with special guest DJ Bruce Warren! Bruce is the coordinator of River City Swing as well as a great DJ, and will also be donating his skills!

It will be a day of great lessons & fun to benefit a pillar of our dance community Gary Gammage, who was hurt badly in a windsurfing injury in October of 2011. You needn't know Gary to attend - all are welcome and appreciated - and please help spread the word!

Sabrina will be teaching 4 hours of West Coast Swing workshops on Saturday December 10th. Workshops will be one hour each beginning at 1:00 PM with a 10 minute break between each workshop. Class size will be limited. Then a two hour dinner break, followed by a evening dance. Dance begins at 7:30 PM with a 30 minute Workshop with Sabrina. Open dancing 8:00 PM till 1:00 AM.

Sabrina will be available for private lessons on Saturday December 10th, starting at 9:00 Am and also Sunday December 11th, starting at 10:00 AM. Don't miss this opportunity to experience this world champion's teaching technics in a private lesson. Couples or individuals welcome. These time slots will not last long, reserve yours today. There will be group dance classes, food, music, games, door prizes, raffles, and more! Instructor Charles Cook will teach a group class on West Coast Swing from 6-6:30PM. Instructor Eileen Nogueiras will teach a line dance class from 6:30-7PM. General dancing is from 7PM to 10PM. Music by Gold Star Event Services LLC! Notes: Judi occasionally teaches a Beginner class on Tuesdays as well, but this is an Intermdiate class. Experience is necessary in West Coast Swing. The Scope & Intent of this Newsletter...
 
Scope: This is intended to be a strictly WCS newsletter, though I may occasionally mention non-WCS events, and it is focused on WCS Dances/Events within about 2 hours driving distance of Gainesville (Jacksonville, Ocala, Wildwood, etc), as well as the bigger dance competitions and workshop weekends in Florida and nearby states. Unless there is a WCS lesson or a dance event that is mostly WCS i.e. at least 50% WCS music, it will not be mentioned here. Otherwise, this would be the never-ending email from Hades.
 
Intent: This newsletter grew out of the class email I sent weekly while I was teaching at the SunShine Eagles Club. I no longer teach, but I try to keep everyone "in the loop" for what's going on in our area. Obviously, it's a teensy bit self-serving because I am promoting my own events, but my goal is to improve our local WCS dance community by letting you know everywhere you can go to get your WCS fix! Remember to get out there and try new venues in different areas - and meet new people! Remember: there is no community without you coming to to support local dance events!
 
Also, obviously this is FREE. Please forward or recommend to any friends who may be interested and I'll add them to the list.
