Holocaust Memorial Program
Sunday April 26, 7PM
The Holocaust Memorial Program is a time when local Survivors and Liberators join with the community to remember lost family members
as well as work to ensure that such atrocities will never happen again. The memorial program also serves an educational function
and informs the public of the horror of the Nazi regime and the importance of not remaining silent when faced with bigotry and
intolerance.
The program runs approximately 90 minutes and includes a short background on the Holocaust, a candle lighting ceremony by survivors
and liberators, musical selections, slide show, and a featured speaker.
The featured speaker this year will be Dr. Ken Wald. Dr. Wald is Distinguished Professor of Political Science at the University of
Florida. Seventy years after his grandparents fled their home and were eventually deported to their deaths in Eastern Europe, Dr.
Wald returned to their small German town to represent the family as the town's citizens erected a monument to honor his
grandparents.
Dr. Wald's talk, "Revenge, Reconciliation and Responsibility", describes the journey both he and the town took to arrive at a shared
understanding of what happened to his family during the Holocaust.
The Holocaust Memorial Program is designed for the general public and everyone is invited to attend.
