Article: Jewish Talking Dog
Morty visits Dr. Saul, the veterinarian, and says, "My dog has a problem."
Dr. Saul says, "So, tell me about the dog and the problem."
"It's a Jewish dog. His name is Irving and he can talk," says Morty.
"He can talk?" the doubting doctor asks.
"Watch this!" Morty points to the dog and commands: " Irving , Fetch!"
Irving, the dog, begins to walk toward the door, then turns around and says, "So why are you talking to me like that? You always order me around like I'm nothing. And you only call me when you want something. And then you make me sleep on the floor, with my arthritis. You give me this fahkahkta food with all the salt and fat, and you tell me it's a special diet. It tastes like dreck! YOU should eat it yourself! And do you ever take me for a decent walk? NO, it's out of the house, a short pish, and right back home. Maybe if I could stretch out a little, the sciatica wouldn't kill me so much! I should roll over and play dead for real for all you care!"
Dr. Saul is amazed, "This is remarkable! So, what's the problem?"
Morty says, "He has a hearing problem! I said 'Fetch,' not 'Kvetch."

Invisible Children is a social, political, and global movement using the transformative power of story to change lives. On October 21st, Monica and Irene will be coming all the way from Uganda to share their stories in person.
Monica, 21, was orphaned because of Africa's war. Despite these trials, she has been a top performing student from Aware Secondary School and will be starting at the university in the near future. She's eager to tell her story to help other students like herself overcome the odds and also get an education. Irene is on staff at Invisible Children's office in Pader, Uganda.
They will introduce their documentary and answer questions afterward.
Teachers: A representative would be more than happy to speak to your classes to introduce Invisible Children and invite your students to attend, and if you are interested in giving extra credit to students who attend we can coordinate our efforts.
5. UF Beach Conservation Club First Meeting
The Beach Conservation Club will have its first meeting ever on Tuesday, October 19. Anyone interested in joining should attend. The Beach Conservation Club hosts free beach cleanup trips monthly. Come to 127 Little Hall at 8pm to find out more!

Contact Sarah Bucci at sbucci@environmentflorida.org or 305-604-8776 for more information, or to set up a time to meet she will be on the University of Florida campus on November 4 and 5.

7. National Wildlife Federation Chill Out: Climate Action on Campus national competition
National Wildlife Federation's Campus Ecology Program is hosting our fifth annual national competition called Chill Out: Climate Action on Campus. The purpose of the contest is to spotlight solutions to global warming on your campus and to share these with a national audience.
Chill Out is looking for the best campus-based projects in six categories: green jobs, students in action, campus actions, innovative design, high school projects and green sporting events. Six awards of $1000 each - one for each category!
Enter Chill Out by December 19 and you'll have a chance to win grant money and a feature in our nationwide Chill Out webcast. All you need to do is create a two-minute video describing your campus' efforts to Chill Out by December 19.
Colleges and universities are leading the fight against global warming. Are you? Let the world know what you're doing to reduce carbon emissions and protect the future by entering Chill Out: Climate Action on Campus. For more information and to enter the contest, please visit: www.campuschillout.org or contact Jen Fournelle at fournellej@nwf.org.
8. Peace Corps and Foreign Language Globe Talk
Thursday, 10/21, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Hub International Center
Ever thought about applying for the Peace Corps? Come out to our Foreign Language GlobeTalk to learn more about making yourself a competitive applicant as well as hear what Returning Peace Corps Volunteers have to say about their experiences overseas.
Around 35% of Peace Corps countries have a language requirement - either 2 years of high school or 1 year of college French or other Romance language, or 4 years of high school or 2 years of college level Spanish. Even if the country you are nominated or invited to does not require a language, the ability to learn a language in the last ten years is a skill that can make you a more competitive applicant!
The Foreign Language GlobeTalk is meant for all so make sure to tell your friends!
Sincerely,
Ashley
