This week there is a change to the West Coast Swing schedule.
We will start at 6:00 and go to about 7:45, with a discount
in the price to $5 (from $8).
The reason for the change is there will be a Balboa class
and dance starting at 8:00. Christian plans to have a Balboa
night once a semester. Come to West Coast Swing and then join
the Balboa group. Balboa is a companion dance to swing, danced
in close embrace.
Next week we are going to start a little later at 7:00 pm,
because the room has been reserved for an all day event.
Am thinking of having a dance party on November 29, the
fifth Sunday in November. What do you think?
Richard is having a Swing and Social Dance this Saturday.
UF Tango in still open to the public, but the room they dance
in on Friday nights is not, so I will no longer be listing that
session here. They danced at Hillel on Thursday last week and
that is open to the public. Believe they will try to dance there
again this week, from 6 to 8 pm, 2020 W University Ave, 2 floor,
free.
If you are looking to dance on Fridays, join the UF Swing Club.
That is open to the public. The Eagles Club on 441 South, where
13 Street sort of ends, has dancing most nights.
Phoebe Cade Miles with the Cade Museum Foundation speaks at
next week's Gainesville Area Innovative Network meeting.
Her father Dr. Cade was the inventor of Gatorade and numerous
other inventions. These are interesting networking opportunities
open to everyone.
Happy Dancing,
Andy

Balboa is a swing dance with a very distinctive feel.
The feel is the chief reason people fall in love with it.
It is danced primarily in close embrace and its body lead
allows for great and subtle expressivity.

Cade Museum Foundation
Phoebe Miles, a native of Gainesville and the daughter of
the late inventor of Gatorade, is the president and founder
of the Cade Museum Foundation, which will be located near the
historic downtown of Gainesville, Florida, and is scheduled
to open in 2012. Focused on "inventing possibilities," it
will showcase the creative process of invention and partner
with a wide array of local institutions to sponsor interactive
educational programs at all levels.
Phoebe Cade Miles will discuss how the planned Cade Museum of
Innovation and Invention will highlight and encourage Gainesville's
national reputation as a center of invention and creativity and how
this will be a key to our future economic growth and stability.
She'll discuss Gainesville's history and reputation as an exporter
of ideas and inventions, and how the invention of Gatorade (including
her father's contentious relationship with the University in the 70's)
helped to transform our community. Mrs Miles also will explain how the
Cade Museum will help to fill the "creative inventiveness" gap in our
educational system. Finally, she will speak about how the transformation
of Depot Park will become a leading example of a successful environmental
cleanup.
Mrs. Miles, currently residing in Washington, DC with her family, is
also the vice-president and founder of the Gloria Dei Foundation, a
family-operated charity organized in 2004 to help those in need by
providing grants to successful and innovative non-profit organizations.

Article: Teachers Get Discouraged Too
Only last week I wrote an article "Have Faith and a Miracle
Will Happen" because it is so easy to get discouraged as a
dance student.
This week, our little Tango class had to comfort our teacher,
because it can be even more discouraging for dance teachers.
She was discouraged, because when she went out dancing,
people wanted to do fancy steps and it did not feel good.
She said she does not want to dance for show, only to feel good.
She wanted to quit because she felt everyone wants to learn
showy moves. She wants to teach good technique.
We encouraged her and reassured her we want to improve our skill.
When she asks us what we want to learn, I always say I just want
to get better at the simple things. I hope she does not quit.
That would be a loss. I like our little group.
