Tubing Trip Down the Ichetucknee River and More

When: Saturday, August 1 to Sunday, August 2, with optional Friday evening,
July 31, arrival. Meet at the hotel in Alachua, Florida by 4:00 pm on Saturday.

What: Join Mosaic members from around the region for a weekend full of fun
and sun. We will be staying in a hotel in Alachua, nearby the beautiful
Ichetucknee Springs State Park where we will start our tubing. Check in
both days is 3:00 pm, but if you get there earlier, you can always relax
around the pool. If you're joining us on Friday, arrival will be on your
own schedule. Anyone there in time can join the group for dinner.
We'll meet in the hotel lobby Saturday morning for breakfast and to organize
our day of canoeing. If you're joining us on Saturday, after checking in,
head out to the pool where we'll meet through the afternoon for a get-to-know
and snacks. Then we'll freshen up for dinner, as a group, at a local restaurant.
After dinner we'll head back to the hotel for Havdallah service, stargazing,
movies, games or a swim in the pool. Early Sunday morning we will have breakfast
at the hotel, then depart for the centerpiece activity of the weekend; the float
down the Ichetucknee River. Tubing on the crystal clear Ichetucknee River is a
unique experience in Florida. Nowhere else can one enjoy the outstanding scenic
qualities of the "Real Florida" while floating leisurely on a tube or float.
The pristine hardwood hammock, limestone outcrops, wildlife and serenity are
a combination of natural values enjoyed by thousands of tubers every year.
Bring snorkeling gear, and jump off your tube at any time into the refreshing
72 degree water to explore the Blue Hole or various springs along the way.
The entire float takes about 4 hours with a stop about 2/3 of the way through,
where our cars will be parked, to have lunch or snacks we bring or buy.
There are restrooms here and a snack bar. We should finish our tubing by about
2:30 p.m., meet for a late lunch/early dinner and arrive home by about 10:00 p.m.

Where: The Quality Inn in Alachua, Florida at exit #399 off I-75, 386-462-2244.

Bring: Clothing, toiletries, hat, sunscreen, bug spray, bathing suit. Optional
gear includes snorkeling gear, waterproof camera. You will also need money for
meals other than breakfast.

To keep the Ichetucknee River pristine, NO food or drink may be taken on the river.

Cost: One Night Fee - $40 for Mosaic members, $45 for non-members, double occupancy
per hotel room, in two double beds or a king. Add $28 to have your own room.
Two Night Fee - $68 for Mosaic Members, $73 for non-members, double occupancy.
Add $56 to have your own room both nights. Price includes hotel room, snacks
around pool, after dinner get together dessert/snacks, park entrance fee and

Complimentary deluxe continental breakfast provided by the hotel. Also, don't
forget to share expenses for gas and tolls with your carpool driver. Cost of
Canoe trip on Saturday is additional and is TBD at this time.

for space and room availability. Call Alyse at 954-474-8498 or e-mail alyse12@gmail.com.

090724 International Folk Dancing, Swing Dance, Moving Scam

Hello Gainesville Area Israeli Dancers and Friends,

Am in Chicago. Tuesday night I did an Israeli Partnership Dancing(tm)
workshop. My very first dance teacher was there Penny Brichta. Have
two more workshops scheduled for this weekend. Last night I danced at
Phil Moss's group. Phil made a nice announcement about me, but I was
in the restroom at the time. Why does it always happen that way. The
weather is so nice, I am going to take the rest of the day off and
wander around Chicago.

Israeli Dancing at B'nai Israel on Thursdays suspended until possibly
mid-August.

Join the International Folk Dancing (IFD) group on Fridays.

This Saturday is a big Swing Dance benefit at the Boltin Center
for everyone, not just swing dancers.

Join Mosaic South Florida for tubing and canoeing in our area
at the end of July. See below.

Make plans to join Mosaic Outdoor Clubs of America for their yearly
International Event on Labor Day, this year in Southern California.
For details see www.MosaicOutdoor.org

Chagigah and Hilulim join together this year, in Wisconsin in October.
For details see
http://osrui.urjcamps.org/yearround/programs/chagigah/

No sooner than I warned you about internet scams, I watched a friend
get scammed by an Israeli moving company for thousands of dollars.
See www.movingscam.com for someone who had a similar experience.
If you are moving or know someone who is, warn them.

Happy Dancing,
Andy

090708 No Israeli Dancing on Thursday, Internet scam, Trips

Hello Gainesville Area Israeli Dancers and Friends,

Israeli Dancing at B'nai Israel on Thursdays is closed for the rest
of July and probably the beginning of August.

In the meantime, get in some Israeli and other fun folk dancing on
Friday nights with International Folk Dancing (IFD) group.

At the end of July, Jewish outdoor enthusiasts are coming to Gainesville
to tube down the Ichetucknee and have invited you to join them. See details
below.

Labor Day Weekend, Mosaic Outdoor Clubs of America has their yearly
International Event in Southern California. This is a great chance to
get with other Jewish people from all over, enjoy the outdoors and have
an adventure. I have been to many and highly encourage you to go. This
year's event is being organized by Rick Dronsky, a good friend of mine,
and the most fun person I know. For details see www.MosaicOutdoor.org

In October in Wisconsin is the wonderful Chagigah Israeli dance camp.
This year, for only the second time, Hilulim (normally held in NY in
the fall) is joining with Chagigah for a super camp. I was at the first
one and this is sure to be an excellent camp. For details see

7. Fri-Sun 7/31-8-2 - Join Mosaic South Florida for Ichetucknee weekend

Price includes hotel room, snacks
around pool, after dinner get together dessert/snacks, park entrance fee and
tube rental ($5 to $10 add'l for a double tube or raft instead of a single tube).
Complimentary deluxe continental breakfast provided by the hotel. Also, don't
forget to share expenses for gas and tolls with your carpool driver. Cost of
Canoe trip on Saturday is additional and is TBD at this time.

Contact: RSVP and advance payment REQUIRED by Friday, July 17. After that call
for space and room availability. Call Alyse at 954-474-8498 or e-mail alyse12@gmail.com.
Please mail check, payable to Mosaic, to Alyse Thompson, 1080 N.W. 85th Terrace,
Plantation, FL 33322. Please include your cell phone & e-mail address. This trip
will be limited to 40 people from the entire region, so don't delay in sending your check.

Article: Internet Scam

I publish another newsletter called Internet Handholding about once a month.
If you would like to subscribe, let me know. This article will be in the next
newsletter. Maybe it can help someone from losing more than they can afford.

One of my customers was victimized by a Nigerian internet scam.
She lost her life savings, more than six-figures.

She is an intelligent, sophisticated, semi-retired woman. She has a bed and
breakfast and cottages she rents. When she told the authorities and her family,
they were shocked that someone like her could fall for a scam like that.

A friend told me her father fell for something similar. I have other elderly
relatives, now deceased, that had lost substantial amounts of money, and they
did not need the internet to lose it. It does not have to be fraudulent. I have
thrown away money, time and emotions on legitimate, ill-advised opportunities
more than once.

How does the process work?

1. Isolation - scams, abuse and other means of separating one from their valuables
depends on isolating a person from the people that would protect them.

2. Fear and greed - Fear of loneliness and poverty, greed for love and riches,
is what attracts a person.

3. Naivete and over confidence - Unaware or dismissive of risks keeps
people from seeking advice.

4. Shame and psychological defense mechanisms - Prevents getting help.

5. Disaster - Only when the person has hit bottom do they go to others
to get help.

You can see the process begins and ends with other people who you can trust.
First you isolate yourself from them so you can do something stupid and then
you go to them to rescue you.

How can we avoid scams, abuse and our own risky decision making?

Rule #1: Tell other people what you are doing, seek out naysayers,
listen to the criticism.

Rule #2: Set a limit on how much time and money you are willing to lose.

Rule #3: Anytime you are tempted to break rule #1 or rule #2, don't.
Never give anyone significant money without first following rule #1 and #2.

How can you help your loved ones?

Make sure they know and follow rules #1, #2 and #3, and this especially
applies to the internet. Also, sneak around and read their emails. Seriously.

You probably already knew this, but it does not hurt to be reminded.

I am always available to any of you for rule #1 or the sneaky stuff.

6. Fri-Sun 7/31-8-2 - Join Mosaic South Florida for Ichetucknee weekend

Price includes hotel room, snacks
around pool, after dinner get together dessert/snacks, park entrance fee and
tube rental ($5 to $10 add'l for a double tube or raft instead of a single tube).

This trip

Save our Florida protect our environment

-----Original Message-----

From: Robert Dewey, Defenders of Wildlife

Help Save Polar Bears

Climate change could drive Alaska's polar bears to extinction within 75 years, according to a recent White House report.

Last Friday, your representative voted against the American Clean Energy and Security Act. Please take a moment to voice your
disappointment.
http://action.defenders.org/site/Survey?SURVEY_ID=14700&ACTION_REQUIRED=URI_ACTION_USER_REQUESTS&autologin=true

Rep. Cliff Stearns - (202) 225-5744 or (352) 351-8777 - https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml

Even though this landmark legislation has been passed by the House, our fight is far from finished.

For the moment, though, please take just a moment right now to hold your representative accountable for failing to stand up for our
polar bears and other wildlife by voting against the American Clean Energy and Security Act.

On behalf of all of us at Defenders of Wildlife, thank you for all the work you do to protect our wildlife. We couldn't be a voice
for threatened and endangered species without your help.

With Gratitude,

Dear Honorable Cliff Stearns,

Thank you for representing me and other people from Gainesville in Congress. As my representative, I wanted to make you aware of my
views.

Protecting the environment is of the utmost importance to me and a voting issue.

Please support bills like the American Clean Energy and Security Act.

Whatever you do to protect the environment has my support, the more the better. Please help stop the destruction of our environment,
species extinction and climate change.

Please stop the the further population growth in Florida, paving over of what is left of Florida, and especially the further ruining
of our wetlands, waterways and beaches.

I am against any further development in Florida except in urban centers. We have too many people in Florida already. Development in
Florida hurts the vast majority of Floridians. Florida does not need more people. Our quality of life and our wildlife goes down
with each new person and each new bit of concrete.

There are plenty of ways for Floridians to support ourselves. We do not need growth. We need the opposite, a shrinking population
and a reclamation of the natural environment.

Economies that depend on growth are backward economies. Future economies are going to depend on quality of service.

I am against drilling in the Gulf. Please do whatever you can to prevent it. Oil is an old world technology and a destructive one.
The sooner we invest in renewable, clean energy, the better we will be. Florida has all the natural energy it needs from sun and
other natural energy sources. We need to invest in ways to harness those energy sources, not in destroying our coasts to drill for
oil.

Imagine a self-sufficient Florida providing ourselves with all the sustainable, self-sufficient, environmentally friendly energy we
need and with a self-sufficient economy, not dependent on constant growth. Florida could be the paradise it should be, with people
providing services for one another and with wild beaches, oceans, lakes and rivers overflowing with wildlife.

Please support efforts to save what is left of Florida and the world that is not developed.

Thank you,
Andrew Weitzen
