Article: Steel-Toed Tango Shoes

My best friend at IBM told me about an argument he had with his wife. I told him, "Just because you can win an argument does not mean you are right."

A few years ago I was dancing with a woman who I liked alot. I gave her a nudge for her to turn one way, but she was already going the other way and stumbled. I was mortified that I caused her to lose her balance and relieved that she did not fall to the floor.

Last weekend I was dancing with her. I noticed she was following using her eyes, so I warned her that was dangerous, but she said she always does it.

We were dancing Tango. I switched my feet without switching hers, which I am allowed to do. Then I started her stepping back and I stepped into the place she just left, which is what I am supposed to do.

She saw that I had switched feet, so she quickly switched her feet, which she is not allowed to do. I tried to blurt out, "Don't do that," but it was too late and I kicked her in the toe and hurt her.

This time it was her fault, but that was no consolation for hurting her. I do not get to dance with her much and that ended my one dance with her that evening.

Being right turned out worse than being wrong.

Knowing she was following visually, I should not have switched my feet. Safety first is the first principle of social dancing.

Knowing she has a weakness for shoes, I found these protective, stylish Tango shoes, which I recommend women put on before dancing with me.
