Ironically, the day after I wrote the Aug.31 update, GRU called me to say that the Regional Utilities Committee has put this issue
on their agenda -- for next week!!

So here is that news flash to add:

Hi Everyone,

The meeting to discuss fluoridation is set for Thursday, Sept.10, at 2:45pm (to around 4:30pm at the latest) in City Hall, Room 16.
(Take the elevator to the basement, make a couple lefts, and there is a small meeting room #16).

This is a small room that can hold 30 people maximum because it is a meeting of the Regional Utilities Committee of the city
commission, which consists of 3 people including the mayor. There is a conference table seating around 14 people, and then chairs
around the room for others. I am allotted 30 minutes to present. I will not be showing the 28-minute DVD since there is online
access to it and most have already seen it. There may be a Health Department representative to present a positive side of fluoride.
There will be comments and questions from the committee, staff, and citizens.

The meeting is open to all, and anyone interested may comment -- but please think first and make it concise.

Fluoride update in Gainesville water supply

Fluoride Update - August 31, 2009

Since the first posting on the Gainesville blog in late June 2009, several things have happened that I'll summarize here. I did
presentations of fluoride information with discussions and a showing of the DVD "Professional Perspectives on Water Fluoridation"
from the Fluoride Action Network, the first at the Prosperous Living Center (July 26) and the second at the Civic Media Center
(Aug.12), with a water engineer from GRU present. GRU confirmed that they use a waste product of the phosphate fertilizer industry
as the fluoride compound they add, hydrofluorosilicic acid. I also sent a letter to GRU asking for documentation of one
toxicological study on the fluoride compound that they add to our water, and received a written reply that there is none. Therefore
they can provide no proof of its safety. We only have assurances from the powers-that-be, but no good science. I thus pose the
additional question: who is legally liable for the harm being done by fluoride?

I contacted the members of the RUC (Regional Utilities Committee) of the city commission and they said that the topic of Gainesville
water fluoridation will be the only topic on an upcoming open meeting of the RUC at City Hall Room 16, 200 E. Univ. Ave,
Gainesville, around 3:30pm on a Thursday. GRU will inform me beforehand when this is scheduled and everyone can check the agendas of
these meetings online at www.cityofgainesville.org

GRU will schedule pro-fluoridation presenters at this meeting: someone from the CDC and/or public health or the dental profession. I
will rely on testimony from the DVD and written statements and petitions of doctors, dentists, researchers, toxicologists,
environmentalists that I can gather through the Fluoride Action Network; any help on this would be appreciated. In addition, I am
compiling a list of local people who can attend the meeting and whom I will contact as soon as I learn the exact date. Anyone can
comment for 3-5 minutes. If you want to be notified of this meeting date, just send me an email (see below) and I'll add you to my
contact list.

Especially if you are a health or legal professional who will make a comment about the ineffectiveness, toxicity, illegality, or
medical ethics of fluoridation, please attend and take this opportunity to influence these commission members. We are fortunate in
Gainesville in that our city commission controls GRU, so everyone please send an e-mail (through the city website) or call your city
commissioners or the mayor to express your opinion on fluoridation, and come to the meeting. Now is the time. For facts, check the

It's appropriate now in this 60th anniversary year of Gainesville's water fluoridation (1949-2009) to re-examine the practice in the
light of all the adverse effects shown by research and our new knowledge of the coverups and PR of the aluminum, phosphate, and
nuclear industries in the past that led people to think of fluoride as safe.

Now that there are many studies indicating fluoride may be harming us and none to assure us it's safe or effective when swallowed,
shouldn't we stop adding it immediately -- shouldn't the burden of proof be on those who want to add a known poison to our water to
prove that it's safe? Not just tell us that they BELIEVE it's safe, but show science that it really is.

090828 Swing Newsletter, Dance Social this Sunday, Videos

Hello Gainesville Area Dancers and Friends,

This Sunday August 30, the Fifth Sunday in August, come out for a
dance party. There will be a short class starting at 6:30 followed
by dancing. There will be a variety of mostly slower music suitable
for all types of swing and other social dances including a little
cha cha, hustle, salsa and waltz.

Monday September 14 is shaping up to be a one-night session of
Israeli Partner Dancing. Probably be in the early evening near
Millhopper Shopping Center at someone's home. Will be real easy,

090826 Israeli Partner Dancing, Fifth Sunday in August Party

Hello Gainesville Area Israeli Dancers and Friends,

Israeli Partner Dancing is starting to take shape.
Looks like we may try a one-night only event, meeting
at someone's house for an hour or two, just to have
some fun. Let me know if a Monday night, say from
7:30 to 9:00 would be good for you, or if something
else would be better. This is going to be real simple,
for all levels, and no partner needed. If you have a
spouse who does not dance, this would be perfect.

Join us this Sunday August 30 for a fun evening of cool music
and dancing. This is the Fifth Sunday in August, which only
happens once every two or three years. There will be a mix
of mostly slower music. Everyone is welcome. There will be
a short lesson followed by a couple of hours of dancing.
