Monday 10/18: A Deeper Look with Rabbi Daniel at 9:00
"A Deeper Look: Torah and Our Lives".  Join Rabbi Daniel for an in-depth look at some rocking Jewish texts, ranging from the classics, to the mystical and hassidic.  Tonight we will begin going through the famous work "Pirkei Avot - Ethics of the Fathers."  Join us for thought provoking discussion and Torah insights on human psychology, relationships, and how to get the most out of life!  Dessert and coffee will be served!

Krav MagaCome learn the art of Israeli Self-defense!  Gator Health and Safety and Jewish Student Union are hosting a Krav Maga class FREE for all UF students! The class will be at Hillel on Tuesday,October 19th at 7PM
Tuesday 10/19: Explorations with Rabbi Daniel at 9:00
"Explorations: A Fresh Approach to Jewish Thought"  Calling all thinkers, searchers, antagonists, and arm-chair philosophers for a lively discussion.  Whether you believe in God, don't believe in God, or are not sure, join us this week for: "I'm Not Taking a Leap of Faith - a rational approach to spirituality."  Dessert and coffee will be served!
Tuesday 10/19: Israeli TV Night at 8:30

Join us at Hillel while we watch - while eating pizza- the second episode of Avodah Aravit (Arab Labor) - the new Israeli comedy referred to as the 'Palestinian Seinfeld'. The New York Times commented that the show "has managed to barge through cultural barriers and bring an Arab point of view into the mainstream of Israeli entertainment."


 A discussion about minority rights in Israel and the struggle of identity within Israeli-Arab society will be held after the viewing.

Wednesday 10/20: Bundles of Blankets at 7:30

bundles of blanketsJoin us for a throw-back Halloween night! Come enjoy candy corn and get spooked by Casper the Friendly ghost. We'll be making fleece blankets for foster children through the Children's Home Society of North Central Florida.


Bundles of Blankets will be in the Sports Lounge.

Wednesday 10/20: Torah on Tap at 9:00

FINAL torah on tapInspired by Abraham's haggling with haShem, this week we will discuss unanswered prayers and divine justice.  Why don't all prayers get answered, even when they come from the best of people?  Why do some "evil" people have the most fortune?  See you on the back porch of Leonardo's (1245 W. University) Wednesday at 9:00 for free pizza and beer!

Wednesday 10/20: JGAP Skate Station Night at 9:00

Thursday 10/21: Lunch and Learn with Rabbi Daniel at 12:00

Jewish students converge for lunch at 12:00!  Bring your own lunch or enjoy tasty delights from the Olam Café!  $4 gets you Caesar salad, pasta, and garlic bread!  Join Rabbi Daniel, Brenda, Moshe and Nechama (world's cutest kids ever!) and all your Jewish friends!  Topic of discussion: Mystical Insights of the Hebrew Alphabet!

Thursday 10/21: Challah for Hunger at 2:00 & 6:30

Delicious ChallahWant to help bake some fluffy and delicious challah? Come to Hillel at 2:00 to prepare the dough and again at 6:30 to braid and bake the bread.

 

Challot are sold on Friday, October 22, in Plaza of the Americas starting at 12:00. Proceeds are donated to Darfur relief.

Thursday 10/21: Jewish Film Festival Screening at 7:00

Be on our film screening committee and help us decide what films to show in our festival in the Spring. You do not need to have any expertise in film, just come hang out, watch a film, and tell us what you think! Friday 10/22: Shabbat Services and Dinner

Shabbat

Join us for Shabbat Dinner and Services, starting at 6:30. THere will be Reform and Conservative services, followed by a FREE Kosher Shabbat meal at 8:00!

Have tickets to Dane Cook? Stop by after for an Oneg Shabbat! Swing by Hillel for some dessert, discussion and all around good times at 10:15!

The Shabbat experience continues with Shachrit at 10:30, followed by lunch at 1:00.

Sunday 10/24: Sunday Funday with Rogerio

11:00-12:30--Join Rogerio for a discussion on the Jewish tradition of disagreeing with God.

 

1:30-2:30--Watch the "Jewish Sex and the City". Come view an Israeli show about young Modern Orthodox Jews living in Jerusalem.

 

3:00-4:15--Yetzirat ha-Shavua (Open Creation of the Week). An artistic exercise in representing the Parsha through painting, poetry, music and theater.

Sunday 10/24: Meet and Greet at 1:00

What's better than free pizza on a Sunday?  Join Rabbi Daniel for a meet-and-greet with  a group of potential future Gators this Sunday at 1 pm @ Hillel.  We will also be discussing the eternal question "Isn't It Enough To Be A Good Person"
