October for Gainesville International Folk Dancers

Last Four Days in October'11

Wow!!! Just finished 4 days of dancing day and night…..a Friday to Monday….north and south….

What more can you ask…..?

Thanks go to the Melbourne folkdance group which host this fun all day dance fest called Fall Fling…in an old World war 2 vintage field house… a Tokyo Polka, a Hora Veche, a Syrto Kitrinou…..new dances others found along their travels on folkdance cruise ships celebrating birthdays(Pat & Bobby), visiting family up in Vancouver(Andi) or rustic folkdance workshops in Maine over the summer(Jean)….anyway, we came home Sunday with a few toe bruises(my long toe next to my former big toe on my right foot) and sore leg muscles but thrilled to be able to participate with all these excited folks coming from all around the state….

Prior, by the way, to this endless Saturday dance day, we  began with our annual Halloween party here in Gainesville….jesters, clowns, peasants & gypsies punctuated the attire for the evening…we really should dress like this more often as you couldn't help but smile when looking around the circle during a dance….a funny night!

And the 4th day, on Halloween day, Andy Weitzen organized a 3 hour workshop with Ira Weisburd, a fine choreographer from south Florida. Just a fine Israeli – novelty dance workshop which moved along all evening….Ira went through 13 dances in the 3 hours. An Israeli Hasspico Mozart(boy, Israeli doing slight Greek to Mozart music…far out), a cha cha espana(a turning 90 deg. Kind of novelty dance which I'd like to do tomorrow night….yes, we dance tomorrow night at the Fellowship!) , and a gypsy styled dance called Hatzoani and a dance called Yeminite Feet…..etc….

Anyway, just an upbeat fun and extremely quick 3 hour night of dancing non-stop…..

But come Tuesday morning, exhaustion set in from the prior 4 days….Wednesday an up lifting feeling settles in….and Thursday I'm looking forward to dancing Friday again!!

Just a fine last 4 days of October!!!
