International Folk Dance Gainesville July 11

Well, a good morning to ya'll.

A little updating is required here, so here goes.

Yes, we now can do Hora Olteneasca, a Romanian classic every Friday after John has revived it so well over the past month!

Yes, Gary & Sharon have truly made us alot healthier with all their wonderful little tomatoes on a vine and last night some fine figs in a bowl.

Yes, the past 3 weeks have been really remarkable with the variety of folks and relaxedness of all the participants. It seems like after every dance a huge smile is on every one's face and last night lots of conversing about the joy of dancing to all these fine tunes we put  on every Friday night.

Anyway, let me get to the point. Which is, we're having lots of fun Friday nights and a reminder, we'll be meeting this coming Friday 7/15 but not the following one, 7/22.

Also, last night we welcomed some folk we all see at Satchel's every so often. Jeff, who plays the clarinet in the Klesmer group and Connie who joins us when we jump up from the beer and pizza to hop around the tables a little to their fine music.

The week before we were excited to welcome some fling folks, Lynda and Tina (Ocala bound). It's always fun to get new enthusiastic folks to join us.

The only disappointment last night was that we missed doing Polka Dots since we kept waiting for another folk to join us and make 10(we had 9). So we just continued with the July 4th theme of American folk dances.

How about the horse and buggy Linda brought back to us in Cotton Eyed Joe. Her New Orleans folkdance roots. 12th St. Rag always brings out a huge smile. Yes, I heard someone requesting Salty Dog Rag. We'll squeeze that one in next week. Teton Mt. Stomp. Our American roots.

And it just seems like a little French independence is always uplifting. So for the 14th, we had Gary & Sharon take us back to the cleverly neat Bal de Jugon. Andro Retourne always gives us that French spirit to the left like alot of their gavottes that Yves Morreau used to teach us. I think they're called gavotte style.

Anyway, enough today. Anyone interested in mingling with pizza and Klezmer this Wed. 7/13 at 6? A fun time.
Later..jack
(anyone interested in more sawing in Highlife? It's from Ghana, Gary looked up.)
